There are four current projects, the building of new homes, pre-school, out patients dept and kandiana
Building Projects
The Building of mud huts, much needed accomodation for the most vulnerable people of the village. Is vital and the main project for the mission.
Teaching and Learning Centre (TLC)
The Pre-school, based in a classroom near the Church, has two sessions (age 6-7 and 5-6) each weekday morning. The time includes play, crafts, learning the alphabet, learning English and having a drink and snack. It is funded through parent's fees
Outpatients Department (OPD)
Each day, about 70 people visit the Outpatient Department, some walking for hours to see Mr. Siakakaba, the Registered Nurse. Both the visit and all drugs prescribed are now free, since the Government recently abolished the token fee that each individual paid. There is a TV and video recorder in the OPD to entertain and educate the many people who wait for hours to be seen
Kandiana is the old people's home built on the site of Mwandi Mission. Most of the elderly in Zambia are looked after by their family, but there are a few who have no living family, have been excommunicated or are unable to stay with their family for some other reason. The 16 residents of Kandiana have their food cooked by the hospital, which they sometimes supplement by doing some fishing. Kandiana is funded by a Government Grant, which is normally about 2 million kwacha a month, and gifts from other donors. Kandiana was originally a leprosy colony, which was changed to an old people's home in the early 80's.
